Organized Homestay

Looking for some real cultural immersion?

Staying with a local family is a great way to really delve into the culture of the area, see what real life is like for rural farmers, and to make new friends that will be hard to forget. Also, since all formal accommodations are in the towns of Sungai Penuh and Kersik Tuo, staying with a local family allows you to base yourself in more far-afield places.
Cost: 50,000 IDR
Conditions: While families are happy to freely give their hospitality, we ask that visitors give them at least 50,000 IDR as a thank you and to cover food or other expenses that the family may have incurred. Also, keep in mind that these are families living in rural Sumatran villages – expect to give up the usual amenities and be taken outside of your comfort zone!
